SSC GD Constable Exam Pattern
The Candidates who want to take the SSC GD Exam must have proper knowledge of the recruitment process. To pass the exam with flying colours, candidates must be familiar with both the SSC GD exam pattern and the SSC GD syllabus. The SSC GD Constable recruitment comprises four stages –

  1. Compute-Based Examination (CBE)
  2. Physical Efficiency Test (PET)
  3. Physical Standard Test (PST)
  4. Detailed Medical Examination (DME)
It is to be noted that

  • Applications for the exam are usually accepted through online mode only from candidates across India.
  • English and Hindi are the only two languages used for the Computer Based Examination (CBE).
  • Four sections make up the exam, which has a total of 100 questions.
  • There is no negative marking for any incorrect answer in the online test of the General Duty exam.
  • For each incorrect response in the SSC GD online test, 0.25 of the score will be deducted.
  • The SSC GD Constable Tier I exam has a 90-minute time limit.
  • The level of the questions on the online test will be high school (10th).
Computer-Based Examination (CBE):
This is an online test comprising objective-type questions which are explained at length below under the syllabus section of the article. As per the SSC GD Exam Pattern, it comprises four sections :

  • General Intelligence and Reasoning
  • General Knowledge and General Awareness
  • Elementary Mathematics
  • English/ Hindi

Physical Efficiency Test (PET): 
Once candidates clear the CBE, they would be shortlisted to take the PET/ PST organised by the Commission. During PET/ PST, candidates who are found eligible on the basis of height parameters are permitted to undergo PET (race) which is followed by a biometric/ technology-aided identification test. The scrutiny of candidates’ eligibility for any relaxation in terms of age, height and chest measurement is done only after they qualify for the PET (race) before PST conducted by CAPFs PET/ PST Boards.Physical Efficiency Test (PET): The criteria to be followed for this test –

  • For Male candidates: Race 5 km in 24 minutes
  • For Female candidates: 1.6 km in 8 ½ minutes

For the Race test, the candidates of the Ladakh Region need to follow the below criteria –

  • Male: Race 1 Mile in 6 ½ minutes
  • Female: 800 metres in 4 minutes
  • Pregnant women are disqualified from taking this test.

Ex-Servicemen candidates shortlisted in the CBE need to appear in PET/PST stage for recording measurement of the chest, height and weight only. They are exempted from taking the PET. However, they need to qualify for the Detailed Medical Examination (DME).

Physical Standard Test (PST):  In this test, the physical standards of the candidates are being tested on the basis of three factors:

SSC GD Constable 2023: Syllabus
The SSC GD syllabus comprises a Computer Based Examination which includes an objective-type paper carrying 100 marks for 100 questions. The SSC GD Exam Syllabus is the same as that of the SSC GD Constable 2023 Syllabus. The SSC GD syllabus for the computer-based examination includes the following sections:

  • General Knowledge and General Awareness
  • Elementary Mathematics
  • English/ Hindi
General Intelligence & Reasoning: 
This General Intelligence syllabus section mainly consists of both verbal and non-verbal types of reasoning questions. This test particularly includes questions that test the candidate’s analytical and logical reasoning skills and his/ her ability to observe and distinguish patterns through questions principally of non-verbal type. The list of topics under the General Intelligence & Reasoning syllabus are listed below:

General Knowledge and General Awareness:
The questions in this section aim at evaluating the candidate’s general awareness of day-to-day affairs and current affairs. These questions do not require the candidate to have special knowledge of any particular discipline. The questions in this component revolve around matters of everyday observations and test the candidate’s knowledge of the environment around him/ her and topics related to India and its neighbouring countries such as:

  • Art and Culture
  • Awards and Honours
  • Current affairs
  • Economics
  • General Polity
  • Geography
  • History and Polity
  • Indian Constitution
  • Important Dates and Days
  • Science and Development
  • Schemes launched by the Government

Elementary Mathematics:
This section primarily assesses the candidate’s knowledge of high-school-level mathematical problems. According to the SSC GD syllabus, the topics are given below:

The questions in this section of the test the candidates’ ability to understand and analyse basic English/Hindi. In this section, their comprehension skills in the language are being tested. If candidates are taking the SSC GD exam in English, then this section will assess their ability to grasp and comprehend basic English along with grammar topics. And if they have opted for the Hindi language, then this section will be focused on Hindi grammar and comprehension. SSC Constable GD Preparation Tips
